Jaya Darriet (Brazil, 1995) holds a Bachelor's Degree in Literature and Arts, and a Master's Degree in Literature, Arts and Contemporary Thought from the University of Paris Cité (France). In 2024, she graduated with an MFA in Visual Arts, with a minor in Documentary Filmmaking from California State University, Northridge.
Through a poetic and exploratory practice, Jaya's work unfolds a fragmented narrative of her nomadic life. Spanning across disciplines including time-based media, photography, drawing and writing, she investigates human's complex relationship with the natural world and the passing of time.
Jaya has exhibited in New Wight Gallery (UCLA), Peggy Phelps Gallery (University of Claremont), Bienal de Arte Universitario (UAEMEX), Centro Cultural de Arte Contemporáneo (Mexico City) and Creativity Crisis Center (L.A.). She was awarded with the Virginia Orndoff Prize (2023) and received the Matadors Council Grant (2024) for her project “diaphanous”. She currently lives in Long Beach, California.
